Safe Passage Housing Program

Why We Created Safe Passage Housing

Our founder, Sumaya, knows the chilling desperation of being without a roof in the dead of night, with little children depending on you. Her own experience fleeing violence led to immediate homelessness, battling a system that failed to provide quick, secure shelter when it was needed most. She faced the profound struggle for a safe home herself. This fight for fundamental security, against the backdrop of a rising national housing crisis, ignited a powerful resolve within Sumaya. She transformed her personal hardship into a mission: to ensure no woman or child endures the terrifying uncertainty of homelessness alone. The name “Salams,” meaning peace, embodies the stability and hope she now seeks to restore for others, echoing the peace she fought so hard to find for her own family.

Who We Help

The Safe Passage Housing program is dedicated to women and children experiencing or at risk of homelessness. We particularly focus on those from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and the wider Muslim communities across Australia, recognising the unique cultural, linguistic, and systemic barriers they often face in accessing vital housing support. Our program is specifically tailored to bridge these gaps.
